Motivations

There are many forms of motivations.

Duality

Some come from duality. From a dualistic view where we experience a strong separation between us and the rest of the world, and we identify with only some of the processes of the personality. Our identity is quite fixed, limited and precarious.

Here, the main motivations are attractions and aversions, which we act on in a relatively unaware and habitual way. There is a sense of contraction, rigidity and inflexibility in how we relate to the inner and outer world.

Transduality

From a transdual view, it changes somewhat. Awareness is no longer blindly identified with the personality - there is a sense of overview and of allowing all aspects of the inner/outer world into awareness. Our identity is porous and flexible - incorporating whatever comes up in our experience right here/now. There is less blind attractions and aversions, and less acting directly on and from these.

Now, there is also a depended sense of humanity, gratitude, humility and empathy.

Motivations

There are many shared motivations in the transdual and dualistice views - such as physical protection, care for oneself and those around us, and wanting to explore, develop and apply our skills. The difference is in how we relate to them - one is contracted, the other spacious.

In a transdual view, some motivations are weakened. We still appreciate recognition, money, sensual pleasures, etc when they are there, but they are not necessarily the main drive for our actions. There is more space around them, more overview and perspective.

And many are new, such as wanting to support life in any way possible. Wanting to reduce suffering and aid others towards a more transdual view - more free from blindly acting on the processes of the personality.
