Egalitarian & Hierarchy

One of the effects of the Big Mind process is to soften the teacher/student polarity. It allows everyone to have a taste of Big Mind - the view of Enlightenment, and to explore Existence from this view. And if used in the context of a Dharma talk, it allows the audience to become participants and collectively create the Dharma talk.

This seems very appropriate in contemporary Western society, as we are used to a more egalitarian approach compared with past Eastern societies.

On the other hand, there is a hierarchy which is appropriate here, and that is of the teacher as (hopefully) more experienced and more familiar with (greater areas of) the terrain than the students. And along with this greater familiarity, it helps if there are qualities such as interpersonal skills, receptivity, ease and simplicity of explanation, ability to meet students where they are at, etc.
